Altaf Hussain praises the steps in NWFP taken by Federal Government

Altaf Hussain praises the efforts and steps taken by the Federal Government in improving law and order situation and establishing the writ of the state in NWFP and tribal areas

MQM Founder & Leader Mr Altaf Hussain praised the efforts and steps taken by the Federal Government in improving the law and order situation and establishing the writ of the State in NWFP and tribal areas. He said that the law and order situation in Swat and tribal areas has deteriorated, which has now spread to Peshawar and its surrounding areas. As a result, the people of these areas are very concerned and feel that the Government must take concrete steps to improve law and order situation in the province of NWFP. He said that if the agreement between Government and various groups would have been honoured and the writ of the Government would not have been challenged then we would not have been facing this situation today. He said that the MQM has always believed to resolve all issues through peaceful dialogues and to avoid the use of force. However, it is evident that if the writ of the State is challenged then the State will take action to restore the writ, maintain peace and improve the law and order situation. He praised the Government for taking necessary steps to curb terrorism, maintain law and order and provide security to the life and property of its citizens. He also praised the Federal Interior Advisor Rehman Malik for his relentless efforts towards tackling terrorism and establishing peace in the region.

Operation "92" Black Day

It was sixteen years earlier on the ill-fated day of June 19, 1992 that Karachi experienced one of the worst moments in its existence. The people of Karachi became victims of a targeted semi-genocidal operation developed by various agencies which were later found to have undeniable and strong links with the Government at that time.
These were innocent people with families struggling to make a living in the feudal dominated elitist philosophy rampant across Pakistan’s social strata, the social strata that was questioned by the ideology of The Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM), a movement that was created to shake the status quo of power in Pakistan, a movement that was dedicated to the soul of Pakistan’s public and became a voice for everyone including the lower and middle income groups, the person on daily wage, the struggling housewives, the laborers, the small businessmen, the students.
MQM’s existence has forever been a threat to the power players of Pakistan who fear that if the movement’s ideology took hold in the country, it would diminish their psychological hold on the public. As MQM started to evolve, these power players strategized to break up the party; they presented the MQM’s leadership with lucrative offers in a bid to buy them out but they could not succeed, because the strength of MQM has forever been the passion and dedication of its workers and their belief in the ideology.
Failing to break up the movement, what conspired was the chaos of June 19, 1992; when these innocent people were slaughtered, their only crime was that they supported the movement.
June 19 is acknowledged as the “Black Day” in Karachi’s history, representative of the destruction that the citizens witnessed. The agencies advantageously collaborated with the Haqiqi group whose members were originally a part of MQM but were disowned due to their involvement in terrorism and other illegal activities. The Haqiqis had a score to settle with MQM and had strong financial backing. They also had the license to kill.
“Operation 92” as it’s titled was targeted to kill MQM supporters but resulted in a massacre of the citizens of Karachi. Such an operation was the first of its kind that experienced covert terrorism unchecked by the government and the police force. Premeditated activities were advised to these terrorists that included brutal rape and murder of women, torture of men, and the elderly, looting of houses, hostage, and family threats all for the sake of punishing them for their beliefs.
It has been 16 years since that episode and still the effect lingers, the victims and their families have not been able to stabilize themselves. While the political parties and their leaders demand enquiries for every incident that happens in the country no one has questioned the event of June 19, 1992 in Karachi. MQM takes up this matter every time a new government comes into power but still the questions remain unanswered, intentionally.
While the movement cannot bring back the innocence that the victims’ lives have lost, it realizes that its voice is stronger and is heard by everyone due to the people who stood up for the movement on June 19th.
MQM honors those martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the cause of MQM; our cause is the cause of every single person out there.
"Rahay haq kay Shaheedon tum ko salam"

MANIFESTO MQM 2008

PREAMBLE:
MQM is the only political party of Pakistan which represents and comprises of working, middle class and poor masses of the country who are presently down trodden, disadvantaged and exploited by the two percent ruling elite. MQM has revolutionised politics in Pakistan its elected representatives and office bearers are chosen by ordinary party workers and people on merit not by virtue of being born in a feudal family or political dynasty. The prevalent feudal system of Pakistan is the main obstacle in the progress of the country and the prosperity of her people. Due to this obsolete system a genuine democracy could not establish in the country and the people of Pakistan could not get their due rights, social justice, equal opportunities, rule of law and real participation in the affairs of the state. MQM is struggling to abolish this obsolete system in order to establish a truly democratic, progressive and egalitarian society in the country where all citizens have equal rights irrespective of their colour, creed, language, ethnicity, gender, belief and religion. MQM believes in Realism and Practicalism as enunciated by Mr. Altaf Hussain, the founding leader of the party. MQM is against all types of terrorism, religious extremism and struggling for religious harmony. The cherished goals of MQM are eradication of political authoritarianism, abolition of feudal system, promotion of cultural pluralism, devolution of power to the grass root level and to achieve maximum provincial autonomy. MQM believes in induction of the common man in the power structure to provide maximum opportunity to economically and socially deprived people-“empowerment for all” for a better and safer life for today and tomorrow. MQM hopes that the people of Pakistan will support the MQM to achieve these cherished goals.

INRODUCTION "MQM"

History and Background:Altaf Hussain, The Founder & Leader of MQM, was born on 17th September 1953, in Karachi. On 11 June 1978, he formed the All Pakistan Mohajir Students Organisation (APMSO) at the University of Karachi. The students who joined APMSO are from the poor and working class background. By 1984, the students’ organisation had taken its message into every corner of Sindh. It was, decided to formally launch Mohajir Quami Movement on 18th March 1984, which was transformed into Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) on 26th July 1997. MQM’s Position: MQM is the third largest political party of Pakistan and the second largest in the province of Sindh, southern Pakistan. MQM has attained this position by winning the local bodies and general elections held in 1987, 1988, 1990, 1993, 1997, 2002 and 2005. Currently MQM has its 25 Members in the National Assembly of Pakistan, 51 Members in the Provincial Assembly of Sindh, 6 Members in the Senate of Pakistan and 2 Members in the Legislative Assembly of Azad Kashmir. MQM is in the coalition government participate take part at federal and provincial level. Its nominated representative Dr Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan is the appointed Governor of Sindh Province. The City Nazim (Mayor) and Naib Nazim (Deputy Mayor) of Karachi and 14 Town Nazims of Karachi also belong to the MQM. The City Nazim and Naib Nazim of Hyderabad, District Naib Nazim of Mirpurkhas, Nazim and Naib Nazim of Taluka (Town) Mirpurkhas, Taluka (Town) Nazim of Sukkur, Taluka (Town) Nazim of Nawabshah and Naib Nazim Taluka (Town) Tando Adam belong to MQM. MQM’s Philosophy: MQM stands for equal rights and opportunities for all irrespective of colour, creed, caste, sect, gender, ethnicity or religion. MQM strives tirelessly for tolerance, religious or otherwise and opposes fanaticism, terrorism and violence in all their manifestations. MQM is committed to the introduction of an entrepreneurial free market economy, good governance and independent judiciary capable of dispensing justice, transparent accountability, free Press and participation of the women in all spheres of life. MQM’s political objective is to change the corrupt medieval feudal political system of Pakistan. MQM is, therefore, the only party of the lower and working classes, totally tree of feudal lords and army Generals. Altaf Hussain’s struggle is based on his philosophy of “Realism and Practicalism” (published in July 2003). He firmly believes that for the progress of the country it is essential to abolish the medieval feudal system and to get rid of the religious extremism to establish the rule of 98 percent working people, poor and downtrodden masses. Unlawful and Illegal Arrests:During his struggle for the rights of 98 percent poor and working class people of Pakistan, Mr. Altaf Hussain has been unlawfully arrested and illegally imprisoned three times. Firstly, on 14th August 1979 while he was demonstrating in front of Quaid-e-Azam tomb for the repatriation of the stranded Pakistanis in Bangladesh. On 2nd October 1979, the Martial Law Court unlawfully sentenced him to nine month imprisonment and five lashes. He served his sentence and was released on 28th April 1980. Secondly, Mr. Altaf Hussain was arrested on 31 October 1986, while wasreturning from the Pacca Qila Hyderabad after addressing the rally over there. Thirdly, on 13 August 1987 Mr Altaf Hussain offered his voluntary arrest to the Authorities on the condition that all his workers, companions and all the officials who have been arrested under fabricated charges would be released. Assassination Attempts before he left Pakistan:The handfuls of feudal who have dominated Pakistan since its inception they are apprehensive that the thought, philosophy and the ideology propagated by Mr Altaf Hussain would end their hegemony. They, therefore, contrived different means to finish Mr. Altaf Hussain including several assassination attempts. During these attacks the agents of deceptive forces used hired killers who tried all kinds of weapons with knives and other lethal weapons including hand grenades. When he was in New York in 1987, there was an assassination attempt on him. On 21st December 1991, when Mr. Altaf Hussain was returning from London, on his way from the Airport to Azizabad, there was an attempt near Aisha Manzil, Federal “B” Area, Karachi to blow up his car with hand grenades, however, the hand grenades blow up in the assassin’s hand who died on the spot but the police also killed his accomplice on the spot and claimed that he had been shot in an encounter. The assassination attempt of 21st December 1991 was a clear indication that the powers to be want to eliminate Mr. Altaf Hussain by any means. It was, therefore, unanimously decided by the Central Committee of MQM and the office bearers and workers that it was essential to save his life and that he must continue leading from abroad. It was now time that he needed to leave the country. On 1st of January 1992, he left Pakistan and came to London. It must be noted that not a single case of any kind was mentioned against him when he left the country. Assassination Threats in London:Soon after the tragic incident of 9/11 in New York, Mr Altaf Hussain was the only political leader of Pakistan who openly issued statement against the religious extremism and extended his unconditional support to the war against terrorism. MQM organised a mammoth public rally in Karachi (the only rally) in support of the war against terrorism on 26th September 2001. Most recently on 15th April 2007, MQM organised another huge rally in Karachi against the religious extremism and fanaticism in the name of Islam. This open support to the war against terrorism is not liked by the religious extremist and jihadi elements and since the announcement Mr Altaf Hussain has received several threats to his life in London, i.e. 31st January 2000, 7th June 2001, 6th November 2002, 22nd February 2003 and 21st March 2004. All these threats had been reported to the police. In view of the above it is abundantly clear that the threat to Mr Hussain’s life even in the United Kingdom is not only well founded but also well documented. Thus that free movement is restricted in view of his personal security. Extrajudicial Execution of Elder Brother and Nephew:Mr. Altaf Hussain’s 66 years old brother Mr. Nasir Hussain and 28 year old nephew Arif Hussain were illegally and unlawfully arrested on 5th December 1995. They were kept in custody and brutally tortured for four days and on 9th December 1995, their dead bodies were found in the Gadap Area of Karachi. This is a brief description of how Mr Altaf Hussain from a modest student has become the leader of the third largest political party in Pakistan. Since then his message has been spreading to every corner of Pakistan? And is now being heard worldwide with the MQM having overseas units in almost all the major cities of the world. This shows the truth and effectiveness of Altaf Hussain’s dynamic leadership, his philosophy and ideology.

MOVEMENTS SHOULD BE JOINED ON IDEOLOGICAL BASIS NOT ON EMOTIONALISM – ALTAF HUSSAIN

Mr Altaf Hussain, MQM Founder and Leader, has said that the meaning of loyalty and the height of dedication is to sacrifice and not personal gains. The same is not true wherever the intention is to achieve personal gains. Similarly, personal interest and greed to receive monetary rewards means lack of loyalty and dedication. On the other hand, truth is in the intentions to sacrifice all thMr Hussain said that there is a clear difference between a political party and an ideological movement. A person joins a political party having his ideology and personal motives whereas, a person joins the movement not for his personal motives because a movement is not for personal gains but collective gains. And where there is a collective gain then personal gain and wishes are sacrificed. Movements are not only for the collective motive of all the persons but also for the collective motive of the coming generations. If a person is living in an atmosphere of oppression and tyranny then he could compromise with the conditions and live his life by becoming the slave of the State. However, a person in the movement sacrifices his life for the collective motive and secures a respectable future of the coming generations. For this greater cause, he does not hesitate to sacrifice his desires, wishes and even his life. Mr Hussain said that a person remains in a political party until such time that his family is being benefited whereas in a movement, a person sacrifices his personal interests, desires, wishes and even his life for the secure and peaceful future for the coming generations.e possessions and his life including the lives of the family members.Mr Hussain said that with the progression of the movements, established for collective motives, the exploitative forces, which had usurped the rights, unleash a reign of oppression upon the movement. This is the stage to gauge the dedication and loyalty of the people attached with that movement. If a person remains loyal and dedicated to the movement under the oppression and tyranny of the Establishment and the State forces, and even does not fear from going to the gallows, then this proves his dedication and loyalty towards the movement. But those who loose hope due to the continued oppression and tyranny of the State and leave the movement proves that their pledge of loyalty to the movement was not based on ideology but based on emotionalism. He emphasised that emotional and ideological actions are two entirely different things. Giving an example, Mr Hussain said that the emotional act is like the froth appearing in the coca cola but if the act is ideological then despite all the State oppression and tyranny, one remains determined and steadfast on the ideology and continues to struggle for the cause until his last breath. Addressing the workers, he said that today we should take into consideration whether our involvement in the movement is based on ideology or emotions. He said that today we should preview our actions and should ponder that has the State oppression weakened our determination. Are we concerned about our families after witnessing the sufferings of the families of the martyrs? And if we are concerned to safe our families then it means that our ideological relation with the movement has certainly weakened which is compelling us to think of the security and well-being of the interest of our families. Mr Hussain said the human history is filled with unparalleled examples of sacrifices for the success of the cause and mission and ideological connection and even today, people knowingly sacrificing their lives for the achievement of the mission and cause. Mr Hussain said that there are people who are made victims of barbarism of the Establishment, however, there are others who voluntarily sacrifice their lives for the secure and better future of their next generations. These people are the greatest of all.Mr Hussain said that we continue to boast of our sacrifices and proudly announce our determination because we are alive. If we are alive then it means that our sacrifices are much less than those who have sacrificed their lives for the cause and mission of the movement. Therefore, we should compare over sacrifices with those who have sacrificed their lives for the movement. Mr Hussain said that the meaning of loyalty and the height of dedication are to sacrifice and not personal gains. The same is not true wherever the intention is to achieve personal gains. Similarly, personal interest and greed to receive monetary rewards means lack of loyalty and dedication. On the other hand, truth is in the intentions to sacrifice all the possessions and his life including the lives of the family membersMr Hussain said that today we should not only reaffirm our pledge of loyalty to the movement but we should also evaluate our commitment with the movement and perform self-accountability. Today every person in the movement should evaluate his acts..
